My career has been a combination of teacher, demonstrator, speaker and quiltmaker. My interest in patchwork, quilting and applique is a
culmination of a lifelong exploration in aspects of textiles with both children and adults.
After 24 years as a teacher of Needlework and Creative Studies, I formed a partnership with Janice Luckhurst and opened Green Hill in 1983,
a shop for patchwork, quilting and embroidery enthusiasts. Seeing myself essentially as a teacher and valuing the contact with fellow quilters, I set out to provide within Green Hill encouragement and individual
attention to each and every customer. In 1996 we sold the shop to give ourselves more time for actual quiltmaking, organising workshops and travelling.
A founder member of the Quilters Guild and also of Romsey Quilters, I have played a key role in organising several exhibitions and have
encouraged a high standard of guest speakers and workshops, establishing contacts with quilters worldwide.
My own work reflects an interest in patterned and textured surfaces. My entry in the Quilter’s Guild Skopos Challenge won the Managing
Director’s award. I have also won awards at The National Quilt Championships, The Great British Quilt Festival and Quilts UK. My work has been exhibited in Europe and USA.
Throughout my life I have enjoyed working with groups and I have co-ordinated and worked with a number of teams on many projects ranging
from charity quilts to church vestments and banners. Much of this work has been done for Romsey Abbey and the latest project has been a Celebratory High Altar Frontal for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
I am now concentrating on a mixture of piecing and applique using silks and hand dyed fabrics embellished with painting and stencilling.
Recent work has been inspired by the “Tree of Life” reflecting my interest in 17th and 18th century Indian printed textiles.
